IN THE CITY

Perth Cultural Centre
James Street, Perth

The Perth Cultural Centre is the city’s main arts and culture hub. It includes The State Library of Western Australia, Western Australian Museum, The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) and Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA). Situated next to the Perth train station, the centre offers a wide range of permanent and travelling international and national exhibitions. Whether you want to explore WA history, contemplate Australian art or read a great book in the comfort of the library, the Perth Cultural Centre has something for everyone.

Kings Park Botanical Gardens

Perth’s largest city park and most spectacular tourist attraction, Kings Park is known for its picturesque city views, picnic facilities, exquisite gardens, walking and cycle tracks.

Perth Zoo

Perth Zoo is a beautiful natural haven just minutes away from the city. Encounter a diverse number of native Australian animals, wild flowers, and a Rainforest Retreat with over 5,000 plants. Journey is a quick ferry ride from Barrack Street Jetty to South Perth foreshore.

With vintage boutiques in Mount Lawley, designer labels in Subiaco and local creations in the city, Perth has some unique clothing outlets. If you’re after some great Australiana gifts, local arts and crafts or fresh food produce don’t miss the Fremantle and Subiaco Markets.

BY THE BEACH

With over 12, 000 kilometres of pristine coastline, Perth has 19 spectacular beaches to choose from. If you’re looking for the perfect spot to swim, surf, or play beach volleyball, Cottesloe and Scarborough are favourites. If you want a quiet spot to fish or body-board try City Beach or Floreat, or if you’re an avid surfer seeking Perth’s most powerful waves, head to Trigg. The No. 81 and No.84 buses from Wellington Street Bus Station in the city will take you on a 30-minute trip to City Beach voted Australia’s best beach in summer 2006.

Water Activities

The Swan River is perfect for enjoying a wide range of water activities such as fishing, surfcatting, jet skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, and river cruises. If you’re looking for an adventure why not head down to South Perth foreshore and hire water sport equipment from Funcats or you can take a relaxing trip from Perth to Fremantle with Captain Cook Cruises.

Rottnest Island

A popular day trip - Rottnest is a small island situated just off the coast of Perth, famous for its snorkelling, diving, surfing, and swimming. The journey takes 30 minutes by ferry from Fremantle and 1 hour from Barrack Street Jetty in the city. If you want to stay overnight, there is a popular hotel and a comfortable lodge as well as a number of self-catering chalets.

Dolphin Tours

Take a half-hour trip south to Rockingham for an exhilarating chance to swim with wild dolphins or enjoy a dolphin watch cruise. A courtesy bus from Perth city bus station will take you directly there!

Araluen Botanic Park

Swan Valley

GREATER WA

Why not stay a little longer and take some time to explore greater Western Australia?

WA’s South West

Hire a car for the weekend and drive "down south" through farmland and forests to popular South West locations such as Margaret River, Pemberton, Walpole or Albany. Make sure you visit the Valley of the Giants near Walpole – a walkway rising 38m above the magnificent tingle forest canopy.

WA’s North West

WA's North West is vast and spectacular. You can take scenic flights, four-wheel-drive expeditions, coastal cruises or camel rides along the beach, go trekking in the national parks or socialise in country pubs. Qantas operates flights from Perth to Broome daily. Once you arrive why not take a short trip on the local Broome bus to beautiful Cable Beach! Buses run by the hour.
