In February 2008, six intrepid Australian and international puppet companies will embark on an extraordinary journey.
Commencing on the east coast of Australia they will travel from the tropical depths of northern New South Wales and the metropolis of Sydney to the vast red deserts of Western Australia. Some towns the adventurers will pass through are Lismore, Tenterfield, Tamworth, Dubbo, Broken Hill, Adelaide, Port Augusta, and Ceduna. As they enter Western Australia along the longest stretch of straight road in the world, they visit Norseman, Esperance, and Albany.
Travelling in two mini caravans each with its own itinerary, they will meet in Adelaide and cross the mighty Nullarbor Plain together to their final destination Perth. On their journey, The Puppet Caravan will present puppetry performances and puppet-making workshops for rural schools and community groups as part of the Million Puppet Project.
One month and more than 5000 kilometres later, these extraordinary travellers will have made the biggest puppet road trip ever undertaken in Australia. Priscilla Queen of the Desert EAT YOUR HEART OUT!
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for artists, school teachers, communities and anyone with an interest in puppetry to work with these highly skilled puppetry artists.

The Puppet Caravan is organised by expedition leaders Sue Wallace (Sydney Puppet Theatre), Lara Cruickshank (Krinkl Theatre) and Sean Manners (Pelican Puppets) and in true crocodile hunter tradition, they will be travelling with a professional documentary crew, Tacit Productions.
