Spare Parts Puppet Theatre

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre (SPPT) is one of Australia's leading puppetry companies, creating inspiring theatre for young people and their families. Located in Fremantle, the company maintains a theatre, rehearsal room, workshop, office space, and an interactive puppet museum.

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre was founded by Artistic Director Peter L Wilson, writer Cathryn Robinson and designer Beverley Campbell-Jackson in 1981 as part of an artist-in-residency program initiated by the WA Institute of Technology (now Curtin University of Technology). From 1997-2001 Spare Parts Puppet Theatre was under the artistic direction of Noriko Nishimoto. Currently, Philip Mitchell is the company’s Artistic Director.

After 26 years of operation, the company has developed a national and international reputation, performing in China, USA, Korea, Singapore, Japan, and Czech Republic.

Within Australia, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre entertains over 50,000 people annually. The company presents three to four new Australian works and repertoire shows in its Fremantle theatre every year, as well as festival events, corporate entertainment and workshops.

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre also maintains a rigorous regional and interstate touring schedule, taking the magic of puppetry to children and families in remote areas of Western Australia and the Eastern States.
